Barclays CEO’s attempt to unmask a whistleblower strongly criticised
May 2017
Whistleblowing charities and law firms have called for companies to offer more protection to workers who flag up internal problems following the news that Barclays CEO Jes Staley’s attempted to track down the author of anonymous letters. Staley is now being investigated by financial regulators and faces a significant cut to his pay after admitting trying to find a whistleblower who had made allegations about a long-term associate Staley had brought to the bank.
Public Concern at Work said that whilst there are strict regulations in the financial services industry about encouraging and protecting whistleblowers, this case demonstrated that more needed to be done.
